  • Formed by the Uniform Code Council and EAN International (now collectively GS1) to commercialize the Electronic Product Code initially developed at the Auto-ID Center at MIT

Auto-ID Labs (www.autoidlabs.org)

  • A federation of research universities working to develop new technologies and applications for revolutionizing global commerce.

  • Base of operations is a lab which models a production warehouse and retail store environment in 10,000 sq. ft. of space donated to the center by Hanna's Candles and located off-campus within Hanna's manufacturing and warehouse facility

University of Florida IFAS Center for Food Distribution and Retailing (CFDR) (http://www.cfdr.ifas.ufl.edu)

  • The first research center of its kind worldwide to focus on perishables distribution and retailing.
  • Includes more than 25 faculty researcher plus associated students and staff involved in research and development involving the entire perishable distribution system from product source to retail shelves.
